What an utterly magnificent, tremendous performance by the incredible genius Karajan conducting one of my all-time favourite Symphonies, Schumann Symphony number Two. The first movement has an ecstatic fire and a dramatic sweep, the second movement battles on and tge fate theme seems victorious. The third moment despairs and evokes loneliness and sadness and the final movement is sensational, the ecstasy and the joy and acceptance of fate leading to a euphoric conclusion. The first recording ever that I heard of Schumann's 2nd Symphony was Katajans studio recording in 1972 and I didn't know that this live performance existed. Robert Schumann, what a genius and from one genius to another in Karajan, gd bless them both.

Thank you Mark Hood!! カナダのDOREMIレーベルからCDになるぜよ!!!!!! これ海賊盤持ってるけどCD-Rだし正規発売なら(なら…)音も凄まじくパワフルで生々しいはず!! 海賊盤には前半のプログラムコリオラン序曲もはいってたしねぇ スタジオ録音の勢いや流れの良さとはまた違った演奏でたのしいね!! ゆっくりと刻みこんだりとか(どういえば良いの…) Syuzoさんだったかしら？ この演奏はとてもメリハリが聞いてわかりやすいけど「シューマンの迷路に入りこんだようなスタジオ盤のほうが好き」みたいなことを仰ておられたような…(うろおぼえ) なんだろう…ストレートに「ロマン派」なイメージの作曲家なんだよねシューマンて いろいろおかしな人だったらしいけど音楽から豊かなファンタジーが感じられる と言っても、すんません…全集はバーンスタインの交響曲全集しかもってなくて最近コンヴィチュニーのベートーヴェン交響曲全集にセットで入ってたシューマンの交響曲全集くらいしか持ってないけど

Thank you Mark Hood!! カナダのDOREMIレーベルからCDが発売されるぜ!! きっと放送音源(のはず)だから音をいじったりしなければド迫力のテンシュテットとCSOのサウンドを楽しめるぜ!!!!!!! シカゴ交響楽団のサウンド力強く 響きの組み立て(どういえば良い？)に余裕がある テンシュテットの作り出す響きは厚く力強いだけでなく その重ねられた響きがグッと加圧され凝縮されたような雰囲気があり大好きなんだけど ここでのシカゴ交響楽団はそれこまででなく その余裕を持った響きの組み立てが美しい(どう言えばいいんだよ!?) 1975年のサンフランシスコ交響楽団とのベートーヴェンの第九とかも音源のこってないかなあ!!

Review in Opera magazine of the prior 7 September performance; " Musically this was a generally strong cast, though on this occasion Gerhard Stolze gave us a weakly-sung Mime, and Rut Siewert's Erda was quite inadequate. Wolfgang Windgassen has rarely sung so musical a Siegfried as on this occasion: it was quite one of the best performances I have ever heard from him . Birgit Nilsson·s Briinnhilde was gloriously sung - she looked radiantly beautiful and moved well. Otakar Kraus lent his usual distinction to Alberich's second-act intervention - his make-up suggested a Nibelung Falstaff more than a dwarf on this occasion. Joseph Rouleau and Barbara Holt furnished satisfactory off-stage voices of Dragon and Woodbird. What however we really all had been waiting for was David Ward's first Wotan. His Dutchman at Sadler·s Wells, his apprenticeship at Bayreuth, his beautifully-sung King Mark all have pointed the way to his splendid first Wanderer. Here was something more than just a good first attempt; it was a carefully realized sincere and finely sung interpretation, strongly modelled on Hatter's, with whom Mr Ward has been working, and one that promised great things for the future. An opera house that has produced a Sutherland, a Vickers, and a Geraint Evans over the last few years , and now in David \.Yard , a Wagnerian bass-baritone of international stature, can be proud of itself. Finally we have to consider Georg Solti's conducting. His Wagner, judged by last year·s Wal kure and his recordings, is tense, exciting, nervous, and enormously rhythmic. It is also inclined to be loud, and thrilled as I was to hear great surges of orchestral sound, I felt a trifle battered by the beginning of Act 3. What I did find missing however was tenderness and poetry - and so the Forest Murmurs scene was lacking in magic. There was an overall impression of a carefully prepared reading rather than of spontaneity. But then one cannot have everything. The orchestra played magnificently, and certainly went a long way to uphold the musical director's claim that it is the finest opera orchestra west of Vienna." Harold Rosenthal

Quadratisch, Akademisch, ohne Charme, alles unfreiwillig betont, kein einziges Piano, alles nur MF. Aber namen verkaufen sich trotzdem. Bei einer Blindprobe hätte heute diese Aufnahme gegen ein drittklassiges Orchester gar keine Chancen.
